Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse

As a skilled Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide high-quality patient care and education to individuals with ostomies, draining wounds, and skin breakdown conditions. Your expertise will help patients manage their conditions and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provides follow-up and interventions to patients with ostomies, draining wounds, and skin breakdown conditions.
• Provides direct patient care counseling and individualized instruction for patients with abdominal stomas.
• Evaluates new and currently used products for ostomy, continence, and wound care.
• Makes recommendations to patients in obtaining related products.
• Assesses individual patient needs and goals, and provides educational programs to physicians, nursing, and other paramedical professionals.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 year previous clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse in caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas, and pressure sores.
• Bachelors Degree and completion of an accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (WOCN) program.
• Registered Nurse License (California) and Wound Care Nurse Certificate from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.

Additional Requirements:

• Demonstrated knowledge of pediatric and adult patient teaching principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems including pathophysiology.
• Effective communication skills.
• Fine motor dexterity.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (CWOCN).

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position with rotating Saturday coverage. The work environment is a hospital setting with a team-oriented atmosphere.
