POSITION OVERVIEW


The Inpatient Care Nurse Practitioner delivers comprehensive Nursing and Clinical Care to a manageable caseload of patients (typically 4 to 6) primarily within the progressive care unit, with potential responsibilities in other Medical units as necessary.

This role is dedicated to providing exceptional, efficient, and economically viable inpatient care in alignment with the facility's established protocols and regulations as outlined in the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice Act.

Care is executed through a collaborative agreement with the Marion Health Hospitalists.

Functions as an extension of the physician in assessing and managing patient conditions by executing tasks traditionally performed by the physician.

Employs established protocols and clinical judgment to fulfill responsibilities.

The Nurse Practitioner - Specialist is expected to embody a positive representation and service excellence of the organization to patients while utilizing appropriate critical thinking skills to make independent decisions within the role's scope.

The Nurse Practitioner - Specialist will address the healthcare needs of patients admitted to various inpatient and outpatient departments of Marion Health, providing specialized services.


The Inpatient Care Nurse Practitioner is devoted to positively impacting the lives of patients and colleagues alike.

This role requires professional engagement, clinical expertise, and a strong commitment to inquiry, learning, and fostering patient relationships.

This position is accountable for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care, which encompasses assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Engages in decision-making, education, mentoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient's care plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a master's degree in nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse Indiana license or eligibility.
  • Meet the current qualifications to practice as an advanced practical nurse in the State of Indiana.
  • Successful completion of certification.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • CPR certification or must obtain at the next available class upon hire.
  • Other advanced life support may be required by unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

  • Requires proficiency in mathematical calculations and medication preparation and administration.
  • A professional understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and other managed care regulations.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and follow directions effectively.
  • Requires excellent communication skills to interact effectively and tactfully with patients, families, colleagues, managers, providers, and other hospital personnel using appropriate grammar and vocabulary.
  • Requires interpersonal skills to perform duties professionally and the ability to manage stress effectively.
  • Requires developed computer skills and the capacity to learn and proficiently utilize patient care applications, e-charting, email, and other standard applications related to departmental operations and job functions.
  • Requires strong customer service skills, with a focus on patient-centered care.
  • Requires the ability to foster compassion and a therapeutic environment.
  • Requires clinical reasoning, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.

  • Requires a basic understanding of infection control principles to prevent the spread of infection to patients, self, and others.
  • Requires the ability to respond appropriately in various environments or situations.
  • Requires general awareness and understanding of the legal implications of patient care activities and self-performance while fulfilling job duties.
  • Requires discretion and the ability to protect the integrity of any confidential information encountered during job duties.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high-stress levels.
  • Risk for occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials, as well as electrical and radiation hazards.
  • Works with protected health information.
  • Works in close proximity to patients and visitors.
  • Requires the ability to work any shift, including occasional extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends based on departmental needs.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT

  • Requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling to provide patient care and utilize necessary patient care devices safely.
  • Use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Requires lifting supplies and equipment typically found in clinical patient care areas.
  • Operates equipment commonly found in patient rooms.
