Role Responsibilities:

The Assembly Technician will be responsible for executing repair tasks and operating specialized engine testing apparatus. The role involves various assembly processes, including pre-paint preparation, masking, sanding, and painting. Candidates should possess the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and mentor others. Additional duties may include supporting other departments as required.

Key Duties:
  • Assemble and test components for locomotive engines.
  • Exhibit knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and welding disciplines.
  • Interpret schematics and blueprints, perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the workspace.
  • Adhere to verbal and written instructions, standards, and quality work instructions consistently and safely.
Advanced Responsibilities:
  • Assemble parts for locomotive alternators.
  • Secure sub-assembly components using bolts, screws, and other fasteners.
  • Install and route electrical wiring harnesses.
  • Manage hydraulic fluid and fuel line installations.
  • Prepare engines for testing by filling with fuel, coolant, and hydraulic oils.
  • Operate engine testing equipment.
  • Conduct pressure decay tests and other inspections as necessary.
  • Diagnose issues and perform adjustments or repairs to meet quality benchmarks.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery, including checking oil levels and air pressures.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and quality concerns related to new parts and engineering modifications.
  • Prepare units for painting and inspect for leaks.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including vocational training.
  • Certification in forklift and crane operation.
  • Possess two or more technical certifications.
  • Experience operating forklifts and cranes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address variations in part quality and process changes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments and industrial equipment.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools, as well as measuring devices.
  • Knowledge of industrial painting systems and coatings.
