Job Summary

The Arkansas Department of Health is seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our Radiation Control Division, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials in our state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of facilities using ionizing radiation to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Review and renew radioactive material licenses, ensuring that applicants meet all necessary qualifications and safety standards.
  • Provide technical assistance to licensees and registrants, answering questions and informing them of any deficiencies.
  • Serve as a member of the Radiological Emergency Response Team, conducting surveys and collecting environmental samples in the event of a radiation emergency.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, or a related field, plus four years of experience in health compliance review and inspection. You must also possess a valid Arkansas driver's license.

Working Conditions

This is a safety-sensitive position, and you will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent in-state and occasional out-of-state travel. You may be exposed to radiation and will be required to wear protective clothing, including a respirator, when responding to emergencies.
