Position Overview:


The Trauma Quality Improvement Specialist is tasked with overseeing the coordination of trauma quality enhancement initiatives for the Level One Adult Trauma Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

This role encompasses a variety of administrative responsibilities, including the management and coordination of monthly and real-time chart evaluations and quality improvement projects for the Trauma Quality Improvement Committee. The Specialist will generate reports focusing on trends, activity changes, data impacts, and will conduct analyses of TQIP reports.

The position involves the identification of performance improvement metrics as specified by regulatory bodies such as DNV, ACS, DOH, and institutional standards; the Specialist will initiate and oversee follow-up actions on performance improvement metrics identified by the Trauma Quality Improvement Committee.

Daily participation in trauma rounds is required to ensure the accuracy of the trauma registry, lead quality improvement projects, and facilitate effective loop closure.

Reporting directly to the Trauma Program Manager, this role necessitates close collaboration with various stakeholders within the trauma system, including the Trauma Medical Director, Department of Surgery, Hospital Administration, Nursing staff, and the Trauma Team.

The Trauma Quality Improvement Specialist will actively engage with the State Trauma Advisory Committee, the American Trauma Society, and will serve as a regional authority in trauma quality enhancement.

This position requires the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines and service lines to uphold a comprehensive trauma care system.

In partnership with the Trauma Program Manager, the Specialist will ensure data integrity and validity while participating in relevant research activities associated with quality improvement and the database.


Essential Qualifications:


Must possess a valid NYS nursing license (or be eligible), hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or equivalent), and have a minimum of four years of satisfactory post-licensure experience in acute care nursing.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities, are essential. CPR-BLS certification is required at the time of appointment. A foundational understanding of statistics and data analysis is also necessary.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in Trauma care is preferred. A Master's degree is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint, Access, and Excel, is preferred. Experience in quality improvement initiatives is also desirable.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, during daytime hours, with occasional off-shift responsibilities.
