We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our Radiation Oncology department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Treatment Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy, ensuring accurate and precise delivery of radiation doses.
- Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, simulators, and brachytherapy sources, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Quality Assurance and Radiation Safety: Develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy, and monitor radiation safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration and Education: Collaborate with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement new treatment techniques and protocols, and provide education and training to staff on radiation safety and treatment planning.
- Research and Development: Participate in research and development activities to improve radiation therapy techniques and protocols, and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field.
- Education: Master's degree in Medical Physics or related field.
- Certification: Medical Physicist certification issued by the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), or Medical Physicist (CMP-ABR) certification issued by The American Board of Radiology (ABR), or Medical Physicist (CMP-CCPM) certification issued by The Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM).
- Experience: Typically requires 3 years of experience in a Medical Physicist Oncology position.
- Advanced knowledge of treatment units and simulators, and awareness of treatment unit's limitations in clinical situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and their families.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills to compare data.
- Physical Requirements: Must lift up to 20 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Exposure to Hazards: Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and radiation hazards.
