Fiber Splicer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to join our innovative team at Ervin Cable. As a Fiber Splicer, you will play a vital role in building the backbone of modern communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and splice fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system.
  • Work safely, with or without supervision, and maintain a high level of manual dexterity.
  • Read, understand, interpret, input, and analyze data with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • Operate technical equipment, including computers, OTDR, and fusion splicing equipment.
  • Work comfortably in cramped and/or enclosed spaces for extended periods.
  • Lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment.
  • Work aloft, either from a ladder, aerial lift device, or by gaffing.
  • Complete daily production reports to document work performed.
  • Use hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of an assigned project.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Requirements:
  • 2 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of telecom construction equipment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, background, and motor vehicle record check.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:

To be considered for this position, a candidate must possess the ability to climb and work aloft, sit or stand for long periods, work independently, work in cramped and/or enclosed spaces, and work alone for extended periods. Work is performed inside a splicing trailer, outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation, and in rugged terrain such as back easements, rural locations, and at active construction sites. Periodic lifting and manipulating plant and equipment up to 50 pounds is required. Noise level can range from moderate to loud and from intermediate to constant. There may also be extensive driving and/or long periods away from the home location.
