POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Nursing Department Director is responsible for overseeing the nursing division and executing nursing programs in accordance with state and federal laws, as well as organizational policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To successfully fulfill this role, the individual must effectively carry out each essential function, with or without reasonable accommodation.


• Strategically plan, develop, organize, implement, assess, and lead the Nursing Services Division, along with associated programs and activities, ensuring compliance with regulations governing long-term care facilities and organizational policies. This encompasses:

o Licensed nursing personnel

o Nursing aides

o Orders from physicians

o Visits from medical professionals

o Recertification processes

o Medication assessments and administration audits

o Scheduling

o Educational in-services

o Infection control protocols

o Utilization reviews and triple checks

o Maintenance of all quality assurance logs in the designated public folder

o PAE and PASSR documentation


• Identify and respond to changes in resident health status, documenting observations, interventions, and outcomes.


• Oversee the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents.


• Develop, maintain, and periodically revise written policies and procedures governing the daily operations of the nursing division.


• Engage in surveys conducted by authorized regulatory bodies.


• Facilitate collaboration between nursing services and other departments to ensure high-quality patient care.


• Review, monitor, and document complaints and grievances from residents, families, visitors, and staff.


• Prepare reports and recommendations for the Administrator regarding the Nursing Services Division's operations.


• Participate in various facility committees, such as care planning, infection control, pharmaceutical, budget, quality assessment and assurance, compliance, QAPI, etc., as assigned by the Administrator.


• Conduct routine rounds and authorize or lead tours with others, including the Administrator, physicians, facility staff, regulatory representatives, and visitors.


• Monitor the workplace for potential health and safety risks and assist in developing and delivering routine health, safety, and back care training programs to prevent employee injuries.


• Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Nursing Services Division budget and provide recommendations.


• Audit documentation for discrepancies and make necessary corrections or document reasons for unmade corrections.


• Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Administrator or Regional Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:


• Experience:

o Preferred: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other healthcare institution.

o Minimum: One (1) year of experience in total patient care and care planning.

o Minimum: Six (6) months of experience in a management role within a nursing department.


• Education/Certification:

o Bachelor's Degree preferred; Registered Nursing Degree required.

o Active Registered Nursing License.

o CPR Certification.
