We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for the supervision of the facility, ensuring the safety and well-being of inmates, employees, and citizens.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and monitor the activities of inmates, ensuring compliance with facility rules and regulations.
- Conduct searches, issue facility uniforms, and classify housing of arriving inmates.
- Prepare and escort inmates for transport to various locations, including medical appointments and court.
- Monitor inmates' well-being, summon medical aid, and communicate with medical staff.
- Patrol and maintain security of designated areas of the facility, controlling traffic to and from specific areas.
- Conduct periodic cell searches, confiscate contraband, and write reports documenting incidents.
- Access information from a computer system, pull records for court, and assess records.
- Perform specific duties assigned to various areas, including property, transportation, recreation, escort, roving, visiting room, booking, main control, housing, segregation, and intake.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must successfully complete the Detention Officer Academy, sponsored by the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility within six (6) months of hire.
The work environment is an adult detention center setting, with varied weather conditions. The work schedule includes shift, evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours. The job requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting (25 lbs. max.), and dealing effectively with dysfunctional behavior.
