Position Overview

SUMMARY:
The Health Education Consultant is responsible for delivering comprehensive nutrition education and promoting physical activity through engaging programs for students in various educational settings. This role focuses on enhancing the health and well-being of elementary and secondary students within the service area, adapting to the evolving needs of grant-funded initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in health education, nutrition, education, or a related field.
  • Experience in educational settings, particularly in nutrition and physical activity promotion, is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Proficiency in technology, including word processing and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid teaching certification.
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Familiarity with local food systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver engaging educational presentations to youth and adult groups, utilizing approved curricula.
  • Conduct nutrition lessons for elementary students, following provided training.
  • Facilitate land-based learning for high school students based on established guidelines.
  • Encourage physical activity in accordance with program standards.
  • Manage classroom dynamics during instructional sessions.
  • Prepare and serve food items for educational activities, with training provided as necessary.
  • Coordinate logistics for classes, including material transport and setup.
  • Provide social-emotional learning support as needed.
  • Organize and lead training sessions for classroom teachers.
  • Manage distribution of educational materials to schools and students.
  • Schedule and recruit schools for program participation.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school staff and administrators.
  • Utilize social media for program promotion.
  • Assist students in grant proposal writing.
  • Engage with community members and organizations to promote health initiatives.
  • Participate in regular meetings and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with project managers to gather feedback from stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
  • Support the preparation of grant applications and reports.
  • Promote events to maximize community participation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to analyze data to inform educational practices.
  • Competence in integrating technology into educational activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability to work independently across various educational environments.
  • Proficiency in software applications, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

CONDITIONS:

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Travel may be required for program delivery.
  • Must comply with grant requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: This is a grant-funded position with a specified annual employment duration. Regular attendance and performance are essential.

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent for Educational Services.

COMPENSATION: Salary is based on the established bargaining unit scale.
