Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a skilled flight controls simulation engineer who is passionate about contributing to the development of self-flying aircraft. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fixed-wing aircraft and be well-versed in both classical and contemporary control methodologies. Proficiency with industry-standard tools is essential, as is a keen interest in applying these tools to novel applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop simulation tools essential for the design and testing phases, including aircraft nonlinear modeling (6-DOF) through system identification techniques.
  • Utilize prior experience to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of aircraft flight dynamics and modeling methodologies.
  • Engage in flight testing and data analysis to validate aircraft dynamics, actuator performance, and Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) modeling.
  • Integrate and fine-tune automatic flight control systems for various aircraft within our autonomy framework.
  • Draft high-level and low-level requirements for automated flight control functions tailored to different aircraft types.
  • Assess control law performance across multiple aircraft platforms.
  • Design, test, and validate Simulink control law and system logic models in accordance with company development standards, participating in certification processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative, certifiable systems that address complex challenges in aviation and autonomy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing aircraft simulations utilizing system identification from flight test data to expedite the design and evaluation of flight control systems.
  • Proven experience in developing and certifying control systems for fixed-wing aircraft, with a solid grasp of flight dynamics and integration tasks.
  • Ability to break down system requirements into both high-level and low-level specifications, with knowledge of defining integration and performance criteria for automatic flight control systems.
  • Experience in Model-Based Development and certification of flight control systems, including proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and testing software for real-time applications.
  • Familiarity with developing certified software under RTCA DO-178 standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Controls.
  • Experience in analyzing military guidance materials for implications on flight safety and automatic control system design.
  • Flight test experience, including writing test plans and integrating automated flight control systems into various aircraft to validate models and control system performance.
  • Possession of a pilot's license.
  • Experience in Agile development environments utilizing open-source software tools.
