The Mechanical Estimator will play a crucial role in compiling estimates of cost on special parts or products as a basis for pricing purposes. This position requires extensive knowledge of designs, manufacturing processes, and procedures with direct experience in welding, automation, and/or robotic equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Compile estimates of cost on special parts or products as a basis for pricing purposes.
- Interpret engineering layouts and data to ensure accurate estimates.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Detroit auto industry base suppliers for design and manufacturing of details and components.
- Estimate labor hours for various tasks, including mechanical and electrical design, fabrication, piping, assembly, installation supervision, machining, wiring, and try-out on KUKA floor and customer floor.
- Estimate construction costs of proposed equipment, including raw materials and purchased components.
- Negotiate changes with customers and utilize project specialists to fine-tune standard spreadsheets with standard costs.
- Work with the Project Services Group to convert estimates into budgets if proposals become projects.
- Develop written proposals describing proposed scopes of work and estimated costs.
- Collaborate with Account Executives to develop presentations and assist in closing business.
- Develop and maintain standard proposal formats for the group, involving close interaction with engineering, manufacturing, and project services.
- Solicit quotations for support equipment required as part of KUKA's proposal, including generating inquiries and defining scopes of work for sub-suppliers.
- Maintain knowledge of PC-based software, such as Microsoft Office.
- Understand and follow safety and environmental regulations, identifying safety and environmental concerns.
- Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excel experience required.
- Body in White experience strongly preferred.
