Key Responsibilities
Your daily and monthly tasks will encompass:
State Tax Compliance
- Overseeing the preparation, review, and execution of annual state income tax filings and compliance in collaboration with our outsourcing partners.
- Taking a lead role in state and local tax audits and responding to notices related to state income tax.
- Ensuring the accuracy of tax calendars and adherence to internal controls.
- Staying informed on the latest developments in state tax regulations.
- Providing support and information to various business units.
- Advising on complex transactions that affect state filings, including mergers and acquisitions.
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving journal entries.
- Conducting reviews and approvals of General Ledger reconciliations.
- Assisting with state legislative and regulatory initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with Guaranty Fund requirements.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting.
- At least 3 years of experience in State and Local Income Tax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of experience in Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting.
- 5+ years of experience in state and local income tax.
- Familiarity with insurance premium tax is advantageous.
- Knowledge of sales and use tax and/or property tax is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management and project management abilities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- CPA or MST designation is highly desirable.
- Experience in the insurance sector is preferred.
- Proficient in tax compliance software (Corptax), GL systems (SAP), and research tools (CCH).
