Key Responsibilities

Your daily and monthly tasks will encompass:

State Tax Compliance

  • Overseeing the preparation, review, and execution of annual state income tax filings and compliance in collaboration with our outsourcing partners.
  • Taking a lead role in state and local tax audits and responding to notices related to state income tax.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of tax calendars and adherence to internal controls.
  • Staying informed on the latest developments in state tax regulations.
  • Providing support and information to various business units.
  • Advising on complex transactions that affect state filings, including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving journal entries.
  • Conducting reviews and approvals of General Ledger reconciliations.
  • Assisting with state legislative and regulatory initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with Guaranty Fund requirements.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting.
  • At least 3 years of experience in State and Local Income Tax.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of experience in Corporate Income Tax and/or Accounting.
  • 5+ years of experience in state and local income tax.
  • Familiarity with insurance premium tax is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of sales and use tax and/or property tax is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and project management abilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • CPA or MST designation is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the insurance sector is preferred.
  • Proficient in tax compliance software (Corptax), GL systems (SAP), and research tools (CCH).
