Job Title: Audio Visual Supervisor

Join the Student Union, Inc. of SJSU team as an Audio Visual Supervisor, responsible for providing technical support and operation of audio visual, sound, lighting, video, and staging for all Student Union facilities, meetings, and events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate day-to-day event requirements from start to completion for the Student Union, Event Center, and activities throughout the SJSU campus.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and supervision of full-time non-exempt hourly staff and student assistants.
  • Develop and administer audio visual and safety, customer service training.
  • Schedule and coordinate staffing needs, technical requirements, and production of events in various facilities, including ballrooms, meeting rooms, SU Theater, and indoor/outdoor areas of the campus.
  • Provide or coordinate maintenance and repair of all technical production equipment.
  • Assist Audio Visual Production Manager and Assistant Manager with development of cost estimates for campus and non-campus events as needed.
  • Maintain AV equipment inventory and supply records for all technical needs.
  • Recommend audio visual equipment purchases to support changing needs of AV equipment trends and requirements for these trends.
  • Assist Student Union Event Services team members in supporting all special event programs and services.
  • Assist SU Operations team in the implementation of protocols for safety, security, and building patrons during SU building events.
  • Participate in meetings as needed for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Assist the Director of Facilities to report maintenance concerns and damage to equipment and resources.
  • Work with SUI Student Success and Assessment team to ensure learning outcomes are developed and assessed annually for the student staff.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Associate of Arts, Science, or General Studies degree in a related field of study.
  • At least one year of experience in event venue sound, lighting, and video systems, preferably in a university setting.
  • Two years or more of supervisory experience.
  • Current CPR/First Aid and AED certifications required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.
  • Scissor and Fork/High Lift certification during the first six months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
  • Two or more years of experience in event venue sound, lighting, and video systems, preferably in a university setting.
  • Two years of experience in customer service-based environments.
  • Previous experience in some level of live event production strongly preferred.
