Position Overview

Role Objective: Under the guidance of the Financial Manager and adhering to established protocols, the Senior Financial Accountant undertakes comprehensive accounting responsibilities that necessitate a profound understanding of accounting principles and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute general ledger and bank account reconciliations, ensuring the prompt and precise resolution of discrepancies. Investigate and rectify any inconsistencies.
  2. Prepare periodic entries for month-end and quarter-end closings to accurately reflect general ledger activities across accounting systems and third-party platforms.
  3. Oversee the creation of financial statements, management reports, and regulatory filings. Analyze fluctuations and variances in balance sheet and income statement accounts, enhancing the data collection and reporting processes.
  4. Support the monthly analysis of the Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL), including data validation and report preparation, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
  5. Assist in the review and certification of reconciliations prepared by other accounting staff.
  6. Participate in the review and certification of payroll processing prior to submission.
  7. Coordinate the preparation of federal and state tax returns, ensuring timely tax payments.
  8. Provide assistance to internal and external auditors as directed, gathering necessary documentation for audits and examinations.
  9. Collaborate with the Financial Manager to develop, document, and enhance processes and internal controls related to financial operations.
  10. Act as a key user for accounting systems, generating reports to support management and facilitating system integrations.
  11. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with Credit Union personnel and management.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution, or extensive experience in advanced financial accounting.
  2. A minimum of five years of experience in accounting within a financial institution is preferred.
  3. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is advantageous.
  4. Proficient in advanced spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Office.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering positive working relationships.
  8. Understanding of the mission and vision of the Credit Union, with a commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct.

Compensation: $36.15 - $38.46 per hour
