About the Role

The Occupational Therapist, Certified Hand Therapist, plays a vital part in upholding the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine. This role adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients, reviewing and interpreting medical evaluations and test results to inform treatment plans.
  • Evaluate patients' physical functioning in daily activities, identify desired functional outcomes, and develop tailored therapeutic intervention plans.
  • Provide expert instruction, encouragement, and assistance to patients in performing therapeutic physical activities, incorporating assistive and supportive devices as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, observing and noting patients' progress and response to therapy, and recommend adjustments and modifications as necessary.
  • Deliver patient, family, and caregiver education and instruction in home care programs, ensuring seamless continuation of therapeutic treatment.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to maintain ongoing communication and complete discharge planning, ensuring a smooth transition to continued care.
  • Act as a liaison between interdepartmental staff, management, and external agencies, fostering effective communication and coordination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Requirements

  • Occupational Therapist, Licensed (IL).
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapists (NBCOT) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) certification.
  • Three (3)+ years' experience in a relevant role.
  • CPR-BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA).
