Position Overview
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for performing medical assessments and delivering care to both adult and pediatric patients prior to and during their transport via ambulance. This role encompasses all aspects of transport services, including the upkeep of equipment and other related responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engages in radio communications with dispatch, adhering to local protocols for radio usage.
- Monitors the mobile data terminal and promptly relays any changes in signal status.
- Adheres to local regulations regarding signal compliance.
- Follows established local and state protocols for patient care, demonstrating competency across various age groups, and complies with hospital guidelines for emergency vehicle operations.
- Ensures the operational status of the vehicle's GPS system, resetting it as directed by the EMT-Dispatcher and reporting any issues to the EMS Supervisor or Director.
- Collaborates effectively with partners and other emergency service providers on-site to deliver care and transport patients.
- Maintains professional relationships with personnel from local emergency agencies.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with hospital staff during patient handovers, providing accurate and concise information regarding patient conditions.
- Completes the electronic patient care report (ePCR) in a timely, professional, and legible manner, ensuring that patient records are submitted to designated hospital staff promptly.
- Fulfills all necessary documentation, including tour recaps and unit logbooks, ensuring legibility by the end of each shift.
- Accurately records all entries related to Controlled Substances, including signatures, at the start and end of each shift, documenting usage and wastage in accordance with the Staten Island University Hospital Controlled Substance Plan.
- Reviews and signs the read and sign book at the beginning of each shift, ensuring awareness of new communications.
- Maintains and cleans the vehicle and equipment as necessary or as directed by management.
- Properly stores and maintains Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and immediately reports any damaged or missing items to EMS Management.
- Performs additional related duties as required.
Essential Functions
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of an EMT-P course approved by the New York State Department of Health is required.
- A valid NYC Driver's License is required.
- A minimum of six (6) months of ambulance experience at a BLS level in a 911 setting, with at least one eight (8) hour shift per week, is required. This may include volunteer or observer experience in an approved program. One (1) year of ALS ambulance experience is preferred. OR
- A minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience working for a private ambulance service in an ALS capacity is required.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $36.79-$41.51/hour. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant at the time of this job advertisement and may be subject to change.
