Emergency Medical Technician

As an Emergency Medical Technician at Northwell Health, you will be responsible for conducting medical evaluations and providing care to adult and pediatric patients before and during transport by ambulance. This role requires performing all phases of transport services, including maintenance of equipment and additional related duties.
Key Responsibilities
Communicate effectively on radio transmissions to and from local guidelines for radio protocol.
Monitor mobile data terminal and promptly communicate changes in signal status, following local guidelines for signal compliance.
Follow local and state protocols for patient care, demonstrating age-specific competency and following hospital guidelines for operation of emergency vehicles.
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with partners and other providers on scene in providing care and transportation of patients.
Maintain professional relationships with employees and supervisory personnel of local emergency agencies.
Report professionally and clearly to hospital staff when transferring care of patients, providing accurate and concise information and answering any questions regarding patient condition.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
Complete ambulance call reports (ePCR) in a prompt, professional, and legible manner, turning in patient record copies to designated hospital staff in a timely fashion.
Complete all other applicable forms, including tour recaps, ePCR for all jobs assigned, unit logbook, etc., in a legible manner by the end of each shift.
Document all usage and waste of controlled substances, as per the current DOH-approved Staten Island University Hospital Controlled Substance Plan.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety
Check and sign the read and sign book at the beginning of each shift.
Review and sign each new communication.
Maintain and clean vehicles and equipment when necessary or at the direction of SIUH Management.
Properly store and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (turnout gear) and helmet provided by the hospital, immediately reporting any damaged or missing components to EMS Management.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED, required.
Completion of New York State Department of Health-approved EMT-P course, required.
Valid NYC Drivers License, required.
Minimum six (6) months ambulance experience at a BLS level, in a 911 setting, with at least one eight (8) hour shift per week. May be as a volunteer or observer in an approved program. One (1) year ALS ambulance experience preferred, or minimum three (3) years full-time experience working for a private ambulance service in an ALS capacity, required.
