Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nutritional Services Assistant is responsible for executing assigned tasks and maintaining cleanliness within the Nutritional Services Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Conducts specified work routines utilizing various dietary tools, supplies, and equipment as directed by the Nutritional Services Manager.
  • Supports the chef in meal preparation and service.
  • Adheres to scheduled meal and snack times.
  • Follows established cleaning protocols and performs cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Assists in loading food delivery carts and serving meals.
  • Prepares the dining area and aids in serving patients.
  • Helps in receiving and organizing food inventory.
  • Participates in departmental training and educational sessions.
  • Observes safety regulations while executing all responsibilities.
  • Complies with all relevant sanitation and safety standards.
  • Maintains the Organization's ethical standards and customer service excellence.
  • This job description is not exhaustive. The employee may undertake additional related tasks as necessary to support the ongoing needs of Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a dietary aide is required.
  • Previous experience in healthcare food service is essential.
  • Valid Serve Safe Certification is preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exhibits strong leadership abilities.
  • Familiar with state and local regulations governing food service operations.
  • Capable of creating appealing food combinations that enhance menu variety.
  • Knowledgeable in safe food handling practices.

Competencies:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow recipe instructions, dietary orders, and work assignments.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks effectively.
  • Adaptability and willingness to embrace change.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and a willingness to engage with individuals from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with cooking equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working with individuals from various backgrounds and educational levels.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for extended periods.
  • Walk, push, pull, lift, and carry objects from lower to higher positions or move objects horizontally.
  • Handle hazardous materials.
  • Utilize tactile senses to feel sizes, shapes, temperatures, and textures.
  • Communicate effectively, potentially at high volumes.
  • Maintain normal hearing ranges.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds, exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Meet minimum visual acuity standards with or without correction.
  • While the worker may experience temperature variations, the work environment is primarily indoors and not significantly exposed to adverse conditions.
