Job Description

The Construction Planner plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects. This position requires a strong understanding of construction management principles, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and validate engineering documents, vendor information, and final design packages to ensure constructability and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with trade partners and contractors to establish scope and associated costs, and ensure that all estimate line items are properly coded and grouped.
  • Technically evaluate quotes and bids from contractors and suppliers, and obtain proper approval for all RFAs and change orders.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure that all site-specific permits are thoroughly understood by the contractor and are being used and/or issued properly.
  • Establish or coordinate special deliverables for projects, including Construction Execution Plans, Sourcing Plans, project permit requirements reviews, project schedules, project cost tracking, quality monitoring, and turnover packages.
  • Work with project schedulers and trade partners to develop accurate schedules, providing task lists, durations, and sequencing information.
  • Coordinate with procurement to generate complete and accurate RFAs, and ensure that all project-related data is routed through the proper channels and retained in proper project files.
  • Document all scope changes on change orders prior to the work being performed, and monitor the work in the field to ensure that it is being performed on schedule and within budget.
  • Approve T&M timesheets, verify that the work was performed, and ensure that contractors are using the correct WBS numbers.
  • Participate in monthly/weekly cost and schedule meetings, and actively participate in all project meetings.
  • Lead daily safety/execution huddles, and communicate with clients and trade partners on schedule, cost, safety, and other project-related matters.
  • Ensure client needs are met within company guidelines, and coordinate completion of construction activities, including preparing and tracking punch lists and/or exception lists to ensure the readiness of systems for release or turnover to the client.
  • At the end of each project, create a construction completion turnover package that includes all appropriate project data.
Requirements
  • Accredited four-year degree or global equivalent in an applicable field of study, and seven years of work-related experience, or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eleven years if non-degreed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction Management degree or global equivalent.
  • Refinery experience - 5 years.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Extensive site construction experience required.
  • Requires an individual who excels in a particular area such as civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and/or instrumentation work.
  • Advanced computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email, as well as advanced use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations.
