The VDC Manager is a key member of the Turner Construction team, responsible for leading the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) department. This role requires a strong background in construction, BIM, and project management, with a focus on delivering high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the VDC department, overseeing activities and providing performance feedback to team members.
- Visit job sites to troubleshoot BIM issues and resolve problems, ensuring seamless project execution.
- Establish and maintain BIM standards for quality, monitoring adherence through expertise and direction provided on job sites and at BIM coordination meetings.
- Provide expertise to the business unit, including information on local standards, owner standards, and other requirements.
- Advise Project Leadership on staffing and related issues during project setup, ensuring effective project planning and execution.
- Conduct workshops and training to apply BIM to both preconstruction and project activities, enhancing team skills and knowledge.
- Develop and maintain relationships with engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and owner's representatives, fostering strong partnerships and collaboration.
- Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of contract documents, both 2D and 3D deliverables, ensuring accurate and efficient project execution.
- Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of twelve (12) years' construction experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience with progressively more responsible exposure to design, cost, sequence, logistics, and field installations of project components as it relates to BIM.
- Thorough knowledge of construction BIM tools and applications in cost, scheduling, estimating, and coordination principles.
- Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Utilizes leading-edge technologies such as BIM and LEAN.
- Demonstrated ability to present technical material; ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with BIM-based computer applications such as Navisworks Manage, Trimble SketchUp, and Autodesk Revit.
The performance of the required duties will require physical ability to occasionally climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, sit, talk, hear, and stand. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee works on-site at the construction worksite where the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise in this work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
