Responsibilities:

The Caterpillar Leaders for Global Operations Program is crafted to offer seasoned professionals a chance to gain practical experience that leads to significant real-world contributions. Graduates from the MIT LGO program who partner with Caterpillar will engage in a comprehensive multi-phase program that includes:
  • Three rotational assignments aimed at comprehending the business, the products, and the customer base.
  • Mentorship from senior executives at Caterpillar.
  • Focused leadership development and hands-on learning experiences.
Assignment Opportunities:

Initial rotational assignments may include:

Manufacturing Project Engineer

Support transformative initiatives at the Decatur, Illinois facility, the largest production site for Caterpillar in North America, which manufactures prime products and aftermarket components for various heavy machinery.

Ideal candidates will thrive in dynamic environments, possess a strong affinity for data analytics, and understand its role in driving improvements within a LEAN manufacturing framework. Experience in benchmarking and developing strategic project plans will be beneficial. Excellent communication skills are essential for motivating cross-functional teams to align with a strategic vision.

Supply Chain Project Manager

Lead capital deployment, technology roadmap development, and value chain optimization for Decatur's Supply Chain and Logistics functions. Focus areas include enhancing processes related to ordering, receiving, storage, and distribution. Leveraging data analytics and automation will be crucial for streamlining operations and defining a cohesive technology roadmap.

Candidates should have experience in fast-paced environments, a passion for process enhancement, and a strong understanding of supply chain functions from order to delivery.

Value Chain Designer

Lead a cross-functional team to design and implement a modular value chain for the next generation of Off-Highway Trucks at the Decatur facility. This role involves collaboration across the enterprise to determine sourcing, implement automation, and validate processes.

Previous experience in manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain, or procurement is advantageous. Candidates should be knowledgeable in root cause analysis and process mapping, with the ability to document and improve manufacturing processes.

Continuous Process Improvement Black Belt

Join the Hydraulic Mining Shovel product group to lead initiatives focused on addressing quality defects in field products. Collaborate across the organization to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Candidates should have familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies and strong analytical skills for data-driven problem-solving. Collaboration and proactive problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this role.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in the MIT LGO program with an expected graduation date in 2025.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as necessary.
  • Open to working in both office and manufacturing environments.
