Equipment Maintenance Specialist

OBJECTIVE:
To ensure the operational efficiency of all manufacturing machinery by performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs promptly to minimize downtime expenses. This position operates on a rotating schedule: six weeks on day shift followed by one week on afternoon shift.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose and rectify all mechanical issues, including mechanical drive systems, industrial hydraulic and pneumatic systems, plumbing frameworks, PLCs, ladder diagrams, AC and DC electrical circuits, sensors, switches, motor controls, and safety systems such as emergency stops and safety relays.
- Utilize hand tools and machine shop equipment effectively, along with the appropriate testing devices for multi-trade repairs on production machinery and material handling equipment.
- Assess machinery for necessary repairs, improvements, or upgrades and execute tasks as required.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and maintain documentation of completed work.
- Engage with suppliers, procure parts, and manage inventory of spare components for all machinery.
- Facilitate machine setup, including rigging, leveling, and ensuring all necessary utilities are operational, along with testing and adjustments for production readiness.
- Design and install necessary fixtures, guards, and machine components, which may involve sheet metal work, welding, carpentry, and painting.
- Collaborate with management to prioritize and complete maintenance requests.
- Repair pneumatic tools and motors, including drills, routers, and bearing assemblies.
- Support the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives.
- Document and support Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities.
- Guide production staff on proper maintenance practices and relay information to the next shift of technicians.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate design modifications for equipment and fixtures.
- Coordinate with IT for the integration of production machinery into the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Assist with facility maintenance tasks as required.
- Work alongside engineering on plant layout modifications and equipment relocations.
- Engage with external contractors for production and related plant needs.
- Provide support for MES-related hardware and software issues in conjunction with the IT department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in troubleshooting PLC and electromechanical systems within manufacturing environments.
- Ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic challenges.
- Capable of prioritizing repairs under pressure across various production lines.
- Skilled in interpreting mechanical, fluid power, electrical, and building schematics.
- Competent in using testing equipment for electrical, mechanical, and fluid power systems.
- Self-motivated with the ability to support production independently.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of PLCs and electrical principles.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Understanding of plumbing, machine piping, HVAC, and dust collection systems.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools relevant to the role.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper PPE usage.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years in related fields.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
- Familiar with panel and machine building practices.
