Painter Technician

We are seeking a skilled Painter Technician to join our team at Savannah-Chatham County Schools. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for applying various finishes to buildings, rooms, or other structures, including primers or sealers.

• Apply various finishes to buildings, rooms, or other structures, including primers or sealers
• Prepare surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they're smooth
• Apply primer and other sealers to paint surfaces to ensure that paint sticks to them
• Mix and match paint, stain, and other finishes to job specifications
• Apply paint, stain, sealer and other finishes to surfaces using paintbrushes, rollers, applicators, and sprayers
• Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding and covering fixtures
• Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, and removing old paint
• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions
• Work with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts
• Read blueprints and/or engineering instructions for the painting trade
• Assist with construction/remodel plan reviews of painting projects
• Actively listen to customer preferences
• Maintain documentations of system installation and maintenance procedures
• Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

• High School Diploma or GED
• 5 years direct experience in the field of Painting
• Ability to use the SchoolDude work order system
• Ability to follow through to verify work has been completed and work orders are closed out properly
• Ability to work with outside vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on projects affecting the painted surfaces of any of the District's buildings
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to create a comfortable and safe environment which allows the SCCPSS customer(s) to study, teach and learn at all facilities
• Ability to perform regular inspections to identify defects on any painted or papered surface
• Ability to maintain inventory control of all tools needed for painting
• Ability to lift 60 lbs
• Valid Georgia Driver's License

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, and maintain a high level of productivity and quality in their work.

The position also requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and to use hand-tools and electric or gas-powered equipment. The successful candidate will be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and extended lifts, and will be able to drive to various locations to perform work.
