Patient Access Representative

As a Patient Access Representative at Geisinger Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate and perform front-line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. This includes greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check-out process, and scheduling future appointments as applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify patient demographics and ensure accurate check-in procedures are completed.
- Monitor patient wait times and communicate changes to patients as necessary.
- Read and interpret insurance responses to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter.
- Ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtain necessary legal and financial signatures.
- Communicate financial obligations to patients and collect fees at time of service as appropriate.
- Process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
- Notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility, including copays, deductibles, or coinsurances, and collect accordingly.
- Perform cash posting following department guidelines.
- Abide by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights.
- Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations.
- Accurately perform medical record maintenance and releases.
- Assist with referrals and pre-certifications at the time of encounter.
- Properly utilize and maintain patient recall and reschedule lists.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required. Minimum of 1 year of related work experience preferred. Certification(s) and License(s) may be required. Skills include Clerical I, Communication, Customer Service, Office Politics, and Confidentiality.
