The Assistant Team Leader plays a crucial role in: delivering exceptional service, meeting sales targets, upholding visual standards, and ensuring operational compliance in a dynamic retail setting. This position reports directly to the Store Team Leader.

Assistant Team Leaders are tasked with creating a memorable shopping experience by employing the G.U.E.S.T. service approach. Their responsibilities also encompass: fostering and motivating high-performing teams to achieve results, managing payroll, training staff across all store areas, executing and maintaining visual presentation standards, and ensuring the team adheres to The Paper Store's mission, standards, and policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a TPS Champion by exemplifying the G.U.E.S.T. service approach and consistently providing World Class ServiceWelcome every customer warmly and enthusiasticallyIdentify customer needs through open-ended inquiriesClarify product features and benefits in relation to customer needs with comprehensive product knowledgeRecommend additional items to enhance sales through effective selling techniquesExpress sincere gratitude to customers and invite them to returnAct as a TPS Brand AmbassadorBuild customer loyalty through friendliness, attentiveness, and respectMotivate and inspire the team daily by providing positive feedback and utilizing TPS recognition programsContribute to a positive workplace by modeling ethical behavior, encouraging open communication, and maintaining confidentiality as requiredAssume all Store Team Leader responsibilities in their absenceExhibit sound judgment in decision-making for the benefit of the TPS customer, store team, and businessCommit to training and development using all available resourcesCross-train Associates, Key holders, and Department Managers in all store areas to build bench strength and a succession plan for leadershipContinuously train and coach associates in all business areas, including visual/merchandising tasks, operational compliance, and GUEST service behaviorsImplement strategies to enhance sales and customer loyalty through effective Sales and Service Leader behaviors, TPS Customer Capture, and Store EventsAfter thorough training, perform ear piercings and ensure a safe, sanitary experience in accordance with guidelines (select locations)Utilize company performance management tools to develop team members (evaluations, performance documentation, feedback, and motivation)Foster positive working relationships with Store Team Leader, DM, merchandisers, and corporate partnersResolve conflicts, problem-solve, and facilitate complex conversations with honesty and respectEffectively manage supply and payroll budgets on a weekly/monthly basisPerform management functions as required, including store opening and closing, managing the sales floor, and coordinating break schedulesComplete all other related tasks as assigned within the designated time frameAssist the Store Team Leader in achieving hiring goals and maintaining a staff that meets business needsFill open positions promptly by actively networking and recruitingEnsure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and expectationsAfter comprehensive training, perform ear piercings and provide a safe, sanitary experience in accordance with guidelines (select locations)

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred previous experience in specialty retail managementAbility to adapt to and lead changeCapability to foster a team environment through positive leadershipFlexibility to work a schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidaysResourcefulness and initiative to problem-solve, operate strategically, and build teamsAbility to multitask while remaining attentive to customersProficiency in Microsoft Office and POS SystemsCapacity to work independently while maintaining strong attention to detailMobility on the sales floor and/or stock room for extended periodsAbility to lift and move medium to large items up to 50 lbs., using appropriate safety techniquesProfessional presentation in attire, demeanor, and compliance with company dress code
