Position Overview:

The Spira Care Physician plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional primary care in collaboration with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), aiming to provide top-tier healthcare services to individuals and communities in the Kansas City area.

Job Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the primary healthcare team, utilizing independent medical judgment to deliver advanced primary care that aligns with best practices and Spira Care policies.

Unless otherwise directed by leadership, ensure that patient care constitutes at least ninety percent of your responsibilities (care may be provided virtually or in-person at primary care and affiliated centers, as necessary).

Provide on-call coverage for nights and weekends as required.
Engage appropriately with collaborating physicians in accordance with established policies and best practices.
Maintain clear, comprehensive, and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) as per risk management and Spira Care policies.
Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary healthcare expenditures through prudent clinical decision-making.
Lead team-based care efforts (e.g., team huddles).
Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including environmental and infection control standards.
Ensure patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy regulations.

Contribute to the development of clinical initiatives, interventions, and continuous quality improvement activities in collaboration with team members from various business and health plan units.

Consult with and adhere to Blue KC Medical Policies regarding coverage and medical necessity, and engage in key utilization management activities (e.g., peer-to-peer consultations with health plan medical directors).

Work closely with teams and team members in care centers to optimize patient outcomes, including behavioral health consultants, clinical pharmacists, diabetes care specialists, care managers, health coaches, practice facilitators, and others.

Execute a collaborative practice agreement or active practice request form and written agreement.
Minimum Qualifications:
MD or D.O. degree from an accredited medical institution.
Successful completion of a credentialed primary care residency program.
Active board certification in a primary care specialty.
Possession of Kansas and Missouri medical licenses or the ability to obtain them by the start date.
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and any state-specific requirements or the ability to secure them by the start date.
BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Maintain all necessary licensures and certifications throughout employment.
Spira Care has specific vaccination requirements as a condition of employment.
