Key Responsibilities of the Medication Technician

The Medication Technician is responsible for the following:

  1. Administering or assisting with the administration and/or supervision of medications to residents in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with state regulations.
  2. Providing both physical and emotional support to residents, promoting dignity and individuality.
  3. Overseeing the wellness staffing schedule.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Administering medications as per physician orders and documenting on the medication administration record (MAR).
  • Conducting shift change reports with incoming and outgoing staff.
  • Maintaining the security of medication storage and conducting narcotic counts as required.
  • Assisting residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene and mobility.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and maintaining professionalism in all interactions.
  • Reporting any suspected abuse or safety concerns to licensed staff immediately.
  • Observing and reporting changes in residents' conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Responding to emergencies promptly and reporting them to the charge nurse.
  • Adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and safety in residents' living areas.
  • Participating in on-call rotations and being available for staffing needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supporting resident-centered activities and assisting with sensory devices.
  • Performing light housekeeping duties and assisting with dining services.
  • Attending staff meetings and participating in training sessions.
  • Maintaining a respectful and supportive environment for residents and their families.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in the state of employment, if required.
  • Completion of necessary training and competency assessments related to medication administration.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Good physical health and ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Successful completion of background checks and drug testing.
  • Experience in assisted living settings is preferred.
