Key Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
  • Collect and record patient data, including vital signs and medical histories
  • Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including phlebotomy and glucometer testing
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families
  • Collaborate with registered nurses and physicians to develop and implement patient care plans
Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the State agency and/or accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
  • Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia
  • English Language Proficiency: Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d)
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of Practical Nurse experience in a Primary Care and outpatient setting
Working Conditions

This position is located in the VA Connecticut Healthcare System under the Primary Care service line at the New London CBOC. The LPN assists the registered nurse with the care of patients with acute and rapidly changing physical and/or emotional needs which are met by the application of specialized technical skills and an understanding of basic scientific principles of nursing care.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Schedule may be adjusted to support facility needs.

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for ad-hoc telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
