Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Emergency Management Coordinator to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our emergency management team, you will be responsible for assisting with preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the event of planned and unplanned incidents that impact our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to develop and implement emergency management plans and procedures.
  • Develop, review, and revise emergency procedures, including the development of emergency operations plans and other critical documents.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts, including the activation of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the coordination of response activities.
  • Facilitate recovery efforts to return to normal operations and ensure that lessons learned are incorporated into future plans.
  • Maintain communication readiness for internal and external operations, including the development and dissemination of emergency information to stakeholders.
  • Provide effective coordination of institutional emergency management projects and operations.
  • Manage social media accounts and other communication channels to ensure timely and effective dissemination of emergency information.
  • Assist with the development and staffing of an ICS-structured incident command team capable of operating 24/7 under the direction of an Incident Commander.
  • Conduct employee and staff outreach and education on emergency management procedures and protocols.
  • Acquire and maintain a basic understanding of Joint Commission standards related to emergency management and incorporate them into plans and procedures.
  • Participate in evening, night, and weekend work as required, including during severe weather events and when staffing a command post or emergency operations center.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management or a related field.
  • One year of full-time emergency management experience.
  • Ability to adjust to a changing environment, manage competing and shifting priorities and deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Obtain IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 certificates within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Obtain Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification within the first 18 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in emergency management or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time emergency management experience.
  • Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) or Certified Emergency Management (CEM) certification.
  • Experience in higher education emergency management.
  • Experience with Veoci software.
Compensation

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $70,000 - $79,000.
