Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer II to join our team at Prime Controls. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing control systems, instrumentation configuration, and testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to assess potential projects and submit proposals.
  • Develop the overall architecture and communication strategy between control system elements.
  • Work with customers and stakeholders to define and document control system functionality.
  • Develop BOMs, IO lists, and requirements for control panels.
  • Serve as the technical lead for small projects, including building PLC and HMI templates.
  • Develop PLC programs in Ladder, Function Block, and other languages.
  • Develop the human machine interface (HMI).
  • Develop hardware and software test plans and write simulation logic for testing.
  • Develop a training plan and materials to train operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Communicate and coordinate with management of the installation team to ensure technicians are executing per documented processes.
  • Test the installed system to observe system functionality and ensure programs function as designed.
  • Troubleshoot problems caused by incorrect drawings, changes in customer desires, inaccurate instrumentation specifications, or other technical issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve software and hardware interface issues.
  • Train customers on use and operation of client-specific system integration software.
  • Interface with manufacturers and vendors to address problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Work with others to address design problems as necessary.
  • May respond to service calls to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair programming and system failures.
  • Mentor and train less experienced employees.
Requirements
  • 4 years of industrial controls experience in engineering, construction, or a similar field.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in PLC programming.
  • Proficiency with Allen Bradley equipment and systems.
  • Proficiency in Rockwell Automation Hardware.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, including ladder logic, function block, and structured text.
  • Familiarity with networking (Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience and knowledge of HMIs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 years of experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry or a similar field.
  • Proficiency with Aveva System Platform (Wonderware).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD - Autodesk software.

At times, the employee will be required to wear PPE (i.e. hard hat, safety boots, hearing protection, eye protection, etc.).

The employee needs to be able to spend 10 hours on their feet walking and attending to duties and equipment throughout the jobsite. They need to be able to climb ladders and step on platforms and equipment. They need to be able to maneuver (stoop, crawl, bend) around obstacles to reach equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
