Job Summary
The Dialysis Hospital Services Nurse (Acute RN) provides specialized dialysis nursing care in our acute hemodialysis unit for patients with renal failure. This role requires collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure safe and high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and monitor equipment for intermittent or continuous hemodialysis and water treatment in the acute setting, including quality control checks.
- Perform and document pre, intra, and post patient assessments.
- Evaluate and make recommendations regarding patient care delivered.
- Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis treatments via all accesses in accordance with DCI's established policies and procedures.
- Administer medications as ordered within the scope of their license and provide documentation of administration and result of medication.
- Accurately receive, transcribe, and implement written and verbal orders from physicians.
- Accept phone lab diagnostic reports, interpret, and forward the information to the physician as necessary.
- Provide and document patient/family education regarding ESRD and other health concerns.
- Serve as the primary contact for nephrologists and hospital staff caring for the patient, and as a liaison to the chronic unit.
- Knowledgeable of DCI guidelines for Occurrence Reports, complete reports accordingly.
- Act as a preceptor for new staff as assigned.
- Follow institution's guidelines for administration of blood and blood products.
