Position: Juvenile Probation Counselor
SALARY: $4,864.00/month - Plus Excellent Benefits
DEPARTMENT: Community Justice - Juvenile
WORK LOCATION: This position requires full onsite presence.
Role Summary:
The Juvenile Probation Counselor is tasked with overseeing youth within the community who are under Formal and Informal Court Probation. This role involves monitoring compliance with Formal Accountability Agreements or Court Judgments and Dispositions, as well as preparing casework, including case plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate referral information in collaboration with the Deputy District Attorney.
- Conduct interviews with youth and their families.
- Investigate cases referred to the juvenile division and report findings to the court.
- Represent the interests of youth in court during hearings.
- Provide necessary information and assistance to the court, including managing youth before and after hearings as directed.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or Human Services with a minimum of 3 years of direct service experience with children/adolescents and families; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Physical capability to transport youth at any time of day or night.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer usage.
- Ability to work flexible hours as required.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check and drug tests.
- Familiarity with local community resources, including judicial and law enforcement contacts.
- This role is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment drug screening.
Advancement Opportunities:
Within the Umatilla County pay structure, an employee in this role will initially be appointed as a Probation Counselor I. To progress to Probation Counselor II, candidates must possess an Associate's degree and have a minimum of 3 years of experience in this capacity, or hold a Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience, along with basic and intermediate certification from the Oregon Juvenile Department Directors Association.
