Sailing Instructors collaborate with the Program Director to implement engaging programs aligned with established standards. Instructors hold significant responsibilities in customer service, instructional delivery, curriculum design, class planning, and behavior management. Compliance with health and safety protocols is essential. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, certified in CPR and First Aid, and obtain a Boater's Card upon hiring. Candidates should be enthusiastic, patient, creative, well-organized, and confident in their teaching abilities. Swimming proficiency is a requirement. Effective communication with children, teens, and parents is crucial. Instructors report directly to the Sailing and Aquatics Director.
Qualifications: US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor certification is required or must be completed before the first day of work. American Red Cross Lifeguard or BSA Lifeguard certifications are highly recommended.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging lesson plans and activities for youth.
- Create and update curriculum for existing and new classes.
- Ensure a safe environment through active supervision.
- Maintain attendance records and submit them regularly.
- Oversee the setup, usage, and cleanup of facilities and equipment.
- Report any program or equipment issues to supervisors promptly.
- Educate youth on water safety, boating, and paddle craft safety.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for participants and colleagues.
- Implement discipline procedures in accordance with organizational policies.
- Communicate effectively with fellow staff and coordinators.
- Participate in ongoing staff training sessions.
- Learn to operate a Boston Whaler motorboat competently.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
September to May (School Year)
*Maximum of 10-20 hours per week
*Flexible weekday and weekend shifts available.
