Key Responsibilities:
Order Fulfillment:
Efficiently processes medication orders, ensuring accuracy and promptness for pharmacist verification. Prepares customized medication formulations with precision. Regularly maintains inventory levels and restocks supplies as needed. Completes all documentation associated with these tasks clearly and accurately. Identifies and records any discrepancies on patient profiles for pharmacist review.
Conducts cart/bin exchanges, managing bulk medication transfers, returning unused or discontinued medications, and verifying expiration dates on multi-dose medications.
Medication Distribution:
Handles medication requests through various communication channels in a professional manner. Ensures timely delivery of medications to designated areas using pneumatic tubes, hand delivery, or courier services. Organizes and returns medications from nursing stations efficiently.
Collaboration:
Fosters a cooperative work environment by assisting colleagues and adapting to various roles and responsibilities as needed. Adheres to departmental coverage protocols and actively supports organizational objectives.
Sterile Compounding:
Prepares intravenous (IV) medications with strict adherence to aseptic techniques, ensuring both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Monitors inventory levels of compounded IV medications, documenting all necessary information and ensuring timely storage of completed batches.
Assists in coordinating treatment plans to minimize waste and enhance patient care.
Demonstrates proficiency in IV equipment, sterile practices, total parenteral nutrition, and the safe handling of hazardous substances.
Completes all necessary documentation associated with these processes.Automated Dispensing Management:
Accurately fills automated dispensing machines and addresses stock shortages. Resolves equipment issues and generates discrepancy reports. Removes expired medications and ensures proper documentation of destruction. Conducts monthly inspections of dispensing machines and maintains accurate records.
Inventory Management:
Repackages oral medications with precision, ensuring all products are properly labeled and bar-coded. Monitors expiration dates, removing outdated products for return or destruction. Retrieves recalled medications from all storage areas and organizes supplies appropriately.
Customer Service and Improvement:
Responds to inquiries promptly and courteously, demonstrating the ability to resolve issues independently. Engages in performance improvement initiatives and supports departmental goals. Works collaboratively with pharmacists to maintain efficient workflow and high standards of service.
Training and Development:
Completes all required training and participates in educational programs for new and existing staff. Stays informed about current industry practices and developments in medication therapies. Encouraged to maintain active involvement in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Additional college coursework is preferred but not mandatory. Must hold a current registration with the State Board of Pharmacy and a Pharmacy Technician Certification. A minimum of two years of hospital pharmacy experience is preferred, with IV experience required and oncology experience considered an asset.
