Overview:

Vets Hired is seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator I to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment such as yard trucks and forklifts to transport containers and general cargo within a specific timeframe.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year

Job Description:

As a Heavy Equipment Operator I, you will perform various tasks including operating yard trucks, coupling and uncoupling trailers, maneuvering trucks into loading or unloading positions, and maintaining constant communication with Foremen and co-workers. You will also be responsible for reporting safety hazards, immediately reporting incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage, and wearing appropriate PPE as instructed by your immediate supervisor and/or safety personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate yard trucks to properly transport containers and general cargo within a specific timeframe from one location to another with the proper and safe care to avoid any damages or accidents.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting, or disconnecting air and electrical lines.
  • Maintain constant communication with Foremen and co-workers to ensure that the correct load is moved at the right time and to the correct location.
  • Report safety hazards and immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by your immediate supervisor and/or safety personnel.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must have one (1) year experience driving a mule jockey and/or tractor trailer, a valid driver's license with a clean driving record, and the ability to efficiently maneuver the selected heavy equipment during the practice exam. You must also be able to handle safely and efficiently heavy containerized, palletized, or loose cargoes in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Additionally, you must possess previous experience performing a variety of physical & labor-intensive tasks, be able to obtain HAZMAT certification within 30 days of start date, and be able to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 90 days of start date.
