Job Summary
The Brock Group is seeking a skilled Leadman to join our team of hazardous materials specialists. As a Leadman, you will be responsible for leading a team of workers in the removal and disposal of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and other hazardous substances.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and disassemble scaffolding and seal off work areas using plastic sheeting and duct tape.
- Position mobile decontamination units and portable showers at entrances to work areas.
- Build connecting walkways between mobile or portable showers and work areas, using hand tools, lumber, nails, plastic sheeting, and duct tape.
- Use hand-operated or power-operated tools to remove or encapsulate asbestos-containing materials.
- Spray chemical solutions over asbestos-covered surfaces to soften asbestos.
- Cut and scrape asbestos from surfaces using knives and scrapers.
- Shovel asbestos into plastic disposal bags and seal bags using duct tape.
- Clean work areas of loose asbestos using vacuums, brooms, and dustpans.
- Wear protective clothing and use respirators to prevent exposure to airborne asbestos fibers.
- Follow all safety regulations regarding work practices, such as work site preparation, decontamination, and waste disposal.
- Use encapsulating materials in an appropriate manner.
- Position warning signs appropriately.
- Follow proper techniques for minimizing fiber release through the use of wet methods, negative pressure ventilation equipment, HEPA vacuums, and proper cleanup and disposal procedures.
- Safely remove coatings or refuse that may contain hazardous compounds, such as lead-based paint or contaminated soil, using approved methods.
Requirements
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of engineering science and technology, including the practical application of principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to select the right tools and equipment for the job.
- Ability to pass Brock and/or Safety Council Site Specific Orientation requirements.
- Ability to work in heavy environments, lifting up to 50 pounds of force from the floor to the waist and 35 pounds of force from the waist to above shoulder.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and other elevated surfaces, maintaining three-point contact at all times.
- Ability to balance body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or performing scaffold construction at elevations.
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, and perform other physical activities as required by the job.
- Ability to see and hear within the required standards.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, from -10 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to wear and use personal protective equipment as required by the job.
