Job Summary

As a Senior Behavioral Health Nurse at SSM Health, you will provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Completing admitting and shift assessments on assigned patients, including behaviors, accurately and within the time frame set in policy and procedures.
  • Utilizing critical thinking skills and judgment to analyze patient assessment data and notify physicians of changes in condition.
  • Participating in the development, review, and evaluation of multidisciplinary treatment plans as per policies and procedures.
  • Documenting all nursing care given and adhering to nursing standards and ministry policies and procedures.
  • Consistently and accurately implementing and recording physicians' orders.
  • Assessing and monitoring patients and environment for safety within the unit.
  • Serving as a clinical resource and supervising care delivered by LPNs and techs.
  • Educating patients and families based on assessed needs and documenting education provided in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Applying the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patients' age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
  • As an SSM Health nurse, you will demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. You will use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide your response to the current and evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and our patient populations.
  • Working in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
  • No experience required.
Physical Requirements

You will be required to:

  • Constantly use speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constantly stand and walk.
  • Frequently lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequently sit, reach, and use a keyboard/data entry.
  • Frequently use vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequently use smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequently use hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasionally lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift/move patients.
  • Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, grip, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasionally drive.
  • Rarely crawl and run.
Required Professional Licenses and/or Certifications

You will need to hold:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) or Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State or Registered Nurse (RN) - Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or Registered Nurse (RN) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
