About the Position

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Managing Director of a new interdisciplinary institute-level initiative. This position will play a key role in launching the Institute and overseeing the organization and oversight of research and education activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with directors, faculty, and stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans for the Institute's research objectives.
  • Develop and manage the Institute's budgets, ensuring effective financial management and reporting to funding agencies.
  • Coordinate resources across departments to promote collaboration and facilitate the growth of scientific Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure and knowledge.
  • Serve as an institutional representative, providing information and analysis to support formal partnerships with external entities.
  • Disseminate research opportunities and facilitate collaborations with sponsors, department offices, and partnering institutions.
  • Oversee the review of internal funding programs to catalyze research and support educational initiatives.
  • Organize internal research community building events, such as symposia and seminar series.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with other academic centers and industry, providing project management support for building formal partnerships.
  • Support the University's government relations and communications teams in conveying the vision, accomplishments, and needs of the Institute and its initiatives.
  • Participate in broader institutional initiatives, proposal and award applications, staff mentoring, and other administrative assignments.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree + two years of related experience or Bachelor's degree + six years of related experience.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD degree (computational field, astronomy, or physics preferred)
  • Two or more years of highly relevant program development experience
  • University experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Significant experience in communication
  • Experience with complex program development, management, and accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibly and on short notice in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with coding and/or website maintenance
