Job Summary

The U.S. Marine Corps is seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Clinical Counselor to join our team at the Substance Abuse Counseling Center. As a key member of our team, you will provide clinical counseling services to active duty military and their eligible family members, helping them overcome substance misuse and related issues.

About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in clinical social work, psychology, or a related field. You will work under the supervision of the SACC Director and Clinical Supervisor, providing individual, marital, family, and group counseling services to clients. Your expertise will be essential in developing and implementing individualized service plans, conducting assessments, and providing education and non-medical counseling.

Responsibilities

As a Substance Abuse Clinical Counselor, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing clinical counseling services to active duty military and their eligible family members
  • Developing and implementing individualized service plans
  • Conducting assessments and providing education and non-medical counseling
  • Collaborating with community referral resources to develop treatment programs
  • Interviewing individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure
  • Determining facts and conditions surrounding difficulties in coping with various life situations
  • Analyzing and evaluating information obtained and making use of other social and medical consultation resources as required
  • Devising workable individual service plans and providing direct non-medical services
  • Making referrals to other social or medical resources as appropriate
  • Providing continuing supportive services to clients and families
  • Participating in training and attending conferences and meetings of professional and other relevant associations
  • Preparing accurate written case documentation and general correspondence
  • Compiling statistical data of services provided for review and analysis


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A master's degree from a college or university with a program nationally accredited in social work or psychology, marriage and family therapy, licensed professional counseling, or a related behavioral health field
  • Highest licensure by a State or National regulatory board that authorizes independent clinical practice, current, valid, unrestricted, and in good standing in at least one of the following: clinical social work, licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional counselor, or clinical psychologist that meet the DoD requirements
  • At least two years of full-time, post-masters supervised clinical experience
  • Ability to teach counseling techniques for substance misuse and review and evaluate training aids and materials
  • Ability to review and analyze clients' biopsychosocial history and develop complete and full-length individualized service plans
  • Ability to assess the needs of clients, counsel clients in recognition of their substance misuse and the consequences, and recommend techniques and goals during the service phase
  • Ability to present higher level command briefings, court testimonies, and conduct liaison, in-service, etc.
  • Ability and skill to prepare accurate written case documentation involving multiple individualized service goals and more complex cases, general correspondence, congressional correspondence, and staff papers
