Job Overview

We are a thriving pediatric clinic in search of a dedicated medical assistant who excels in teamwork. The role encompasses various responsibilities including monitoring vital signs, conducting in-house laboratory tests, administering immunizations, and performing other essential back-office tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Management: Oversee patient care using both electronic and paper systems.
  • Preparation: Ensure treatment rooms are ready for patient examinations, maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Instrument Handling: Clean and sterilize medical instruments, properly disposing of contaminated materials.
  • Vital Signs: Accurately measure and document patients' vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Patient History: Verify completeness of patient history, including immunization records and allergy information.
  • Room Preparation: Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for physician evaluation.
  • Documentation: Summarize patient complaints, document required immunizations, and review previous visit notes for follow-up plans.
  • Assistance: Support physicians during procedures such as administering injections or removing sutures.
  • Prescriptions: Authorize medication refills and relay prescription details to pharmacies.
  • Sensory Screening: Conduct sensory screenings as necessary.
  • Paperwork: Complete required documentation for patients, including school and medication forms.
  • Results Coordination: Contact hospitals to obtain necessary lab and x-ray results.
  • Referrals: Process referrals and referral cover sheets for physician approval, including obtaining insurance authorizations.
  • Home Therapies: Set up home therapy plans for patients.
  • Patient Education: Explain treatment procedures, medications, dietary instructions, and physician directives to patients.
  • Work Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace for both patients and staff.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with nursing and front office staff to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Emergency Support: Assist the physician in emergency situations.
  • Medication Management: Ensure all sample medications and formulas are within their expiration dates.
  • Knowledge Maintenance: Stay informed about medications and supplies available on the crash cart.
  • Immunizations: Administer immunizations and medication injections.
  • Compliance: Adhere to OSHA and safety regulations for room management and documentation.
  • Additional Duties: Perform various other tasks as assigned, including cross-training in different functional areas.
  • Training: Complete all mandatory training courses by specified deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Licensure: Medical Assistant Diploma or Certification required.
  • Skills: Proficient in obtaining vital signs for pediatric patients, understanding basic medical terminology, and knowledge of children's immunization requirements. Ability to assess emergencies and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a pediatric medical assistant is preferred. Familiarity with computer systems is desirable.
