Position Title: Part-Time Phlebotomy Technician II

Location: Augusta, GA

Duration: Temporary assignment

Work Schedule: Monday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Compensation: $20-$21 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Role Summary:

The Phlebotomy Technician is tasked with executing various technical and administrative duties associated with specimen collection and processing. This position demands a high level of precision and compliance with laboratory standards, along with additional responsibilities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Collection: Conduct venipuncture and capillary draws with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform legal blood alcohol collections adhering to established protocols.
  • Assess specimen acceptability and maintain correct identification throughout the collection process.
  • Collect blood specimens from indwelling lines while following universal safety precautions.

Specimen Processing:

  • Handle specimens according to both verbal and written directives.
  • Respond promptly to blood draw requests and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Label and process samples with meticulous care.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation to other testing facilities.

Laboratory Operations:

  • Conduct limited CLIA-waived testing and utilize laboratory information systems effectively.
  • Manage entry and release of laboratory orders in accordance with site-specific procedures.
  • Address sample identification and order discrepancies, contacting patients for repeat draws when necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform EKGs, drug screen collections, breath alcohol testing, and spirometry as required.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace, restock supplies, and monitor expiration dates.
  • Assist in training new staff and students in phlebotomy practices.
  • Complete maintenance and scheduled checklist tasks punctually and accurately.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in inpatient settings with proficiency in high-volume blood draws.
  • ASCP certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in phlebotomy, specimen collection, and processing.
  • Familiarity with EPIC and laboratory information systems.
  • Strong organizational and clerical capabilities.

Education and Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Certifications: Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, and/or Phlebotomy Training are preferred.
