Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to perform blood draws and collect other biological samples from patients for diagnostic testing or research purposes.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Phlebotomist is to accurately identify patients and employ appropriate phlebotomy techniques (such as venipuncture and capillary puncture). You will play a crucial role in maintaining patient health and ensuring the integrity of samples.
Essential Duties
- Organize daily tasks based on the urgency of sample requests.
- Verify patient identity and relevant information through identification documents.
- Select the appropriate venipuncture technique considering the patient's age and health status.
- Provide reassurance to patients to help them feel at ease.
- Locate suitable veins for blood collection.
- Perform blood draws using sterile equipment and materials.
- Guarantee the quality and quantity of collected samples.
- Label samples accurately and ensure their proper transportation for analysis.
- Address patient inquiries and provide pertinent information.
- Maintain precise records of fluid specimens and associated tests.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations during procedures.
- Assist with blood transfusions as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician.
- Proficient in effective blood draw techniques.
- Familiarity with patient identification protocols.
- Knowledge of legal standards regarding blood collection and handling of biological samples.
- Competence in using computer systems for data entry.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Capability to interact comfortably with diverse patient populations, including children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
- Exemplary patience and composure.
- Possession of a diploma in Phlebotomy.
- Certification in Phlebotomy is advantageous.
