Position Overview:

The Senior Psychologist will oversee and guide the activities of professional psychologists or therapists in delivering services to individuals within an inpatient environment facing psychological challenges and various life difficulties. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide psychological services to patients in a civil and/or forensic inpatient unit.
  • Consulting with colleagues from different disciplines to identify effective treatment strategies.
  • Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, which may encompass violence risk evaluations, neuropsychological assessments, diagnostic clarifications, and competency evaluations.
  • Facilitating both individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Creating behavior modification plans to manage aggression, self-harm, and other maladaptive behaviors.
  • Participating in the training of psychology interns and practicum students.
  • Delivering educational sessions to hospital staff on various relevant topics.
  • Documenting all services rendered accurately.
  • Engaging in program implementation such as cognitive remediation for patients with severe mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in treatment team meetings, providing psychological services that include program development, behavior plans, treatment strategies, and direct patient interactions.
  • Administer psychological evaluations.
  • Provide therapeutic support through individual and group sessions.
  • Offer clinical supervision to interns and students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and provide training to hospital staff.
  • Contribute to additional responsibilities as required (typically 5% - 10% of duties).

Qualifications and Skills:

Knowledge:

  • Expertise in psychological counseling and therapeutic techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of psychological screening, testing, and evaluation processes.
  • Awareness of contemporary trends in psychology and mental health.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies, including data analysis and psychological measurement.
  • Proficient in report writing and documentation.
  • Knowledge of Performance Management (PM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methodologies.

Skills:

  • Ability to provide psychological treatment and counseling in accordance with ethical standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective case management capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and report writing proficiency.

Abilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Document assessment and treatment activities promptly and accurately.
  • Administer, score, and interpret various psychological tests competently.
  • Produce high-quality professional summaries and reports.
  • Provide clinical oversight to both professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Support a diverse workforce and promote an inclusive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Training in a broad spectrum of psychological assessments and at least one year of professional experience as a licensed psychologist, or relevant training with individuals experiencing severe mental health issues and forensic populations.
  • Experience with individuals having a history of sexual offenses, though this is not mandatory.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in Public Health.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
  • Must hold a valid psychologist license in the State of Arizona or be eligible for licensure and obtain certification from the Board of Psychologist Examiners within one year of employment.
  • State Hospital employees must secure a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card as per state regulations.
