About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team in Nashville, Tennessee. As an Environmental Scientist, you will perform project management and field work associated with natural resource assessments and permitting. You will communicate diligently with our clients and have a strong knowledge of the NEPA process and an understanding of federal and state environmental regulations about water resources and threatened and endangered species.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fieldwork and reporting for jurisdictional waters assessment, stream quantification tool (SQT), Tennessee Rapid Assessment Methodology (TRAM), threatened and endangered species assessments, and wetland/stream mitigation support services
  • Prepare proposals, manage projects and budgets relating to wetlands, streams, threatened and endangered species assessments, 401/404 permitting, and wetland/stream mitigation support services
  • Prepare quality reports for our clients and diligently communicate findings/conclusions promptly
  • Support other environmental projects that may include Phase I ESAs, stormwater sampling (MS4 support services), and other activities, as necessary
  • Develop new client relationships and participate in business development activities that win new work and contribute to S&ME's financial success
  • Collaborate with S&ME's Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Services teams to successfully win and execute multi-service projects
About You:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Scientist with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry or related field. You should have 5+ years of experience in wetland delineations, stream determinations, permitting, mitigation support, and endangered species assessments. You should also have basic technical writing skills at the college level and completed the basic wetland delineation training as specified by the USACE. Additionally, you should have completed OSHA Hazwoper 40-hour or 8-hour refresher courses and 2 of the following active certifications: Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Tennessee Qualified Hydrologic Professional (QHP), Level I and/or II Erosion Protection and Sediment Control Certified, or Licensed Soil Scientist certification. Experience with GIS and/or CAD is a plus.
