About the Opportunity

Vail Health Hospital seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a key member of the perioperative team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team.
  • Participate in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care, functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Possess expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies in performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Function with working knowledge of AORN standards, maintaining and checking all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal, and packaging integrity.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
  • Monitor the sterile field for events that may contaminate, interfere, or alter the field and initiate or notify of need for corrective action under supervision.
  • Working towards competency or competent with Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Maintain flexibility while contributing to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
  • Model effective, timely communication with the perioperative team, participating in Time Out Process to include Briefings and Debriefings.
  • Assist team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
  • Model professional behavior, maintaining currency in new technologies and procedures, including instrumentation and equipment.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Role model the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
  • Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
Benefits

PRN (POOL) benefits include: Wellbeing reimbursement funds and 403(b) contribution eligibility. Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
