Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Counselor to join our team at EmergeOrtho. As a Financial Counselor, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all processes related to insurance eligibility and verification are performed prior to patient procedures. You will also be responsible for informing patients of their financial liability and setting up payment arrangements according to our current policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient demographic information for accuracy and update our financial records accordingly.
  • Meet with patients to explain cost of treatment, insurance coverage, and patient financial responsibility.
  • Coordinate proper insurance certification information/documentation of patient's insurance to be used to estimate patient financial responsibility.
  • Develop a standard estimate that includes CPT codes and standard units based on normal course of treatment for the particular procedure to be performed.
  • Responsible for monitoring and collecting preoperative deposits owed.
  • Review all payment/financial options, including vocational rehabilitation, Medicaid, payment plans, etc.
  • Develop an estimate that can be forwarded to the front desk detailing the amount of money needing to be collected.
  • Review schedules on a daily basis and coordinate with the front desk to meet with patients owing a prior balance to collect or make payment arrangements.
  • Scan budgets into patient charts/profiles.
  • Report collection of monies to the Billing Director and Practice Manager.
  • Obtain eligibility, benefits, and prior authorization for office visits, surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, office procedures, and DME.
  • Schedule COS and outside facility procedures.
  • Document all correspondence within our practice management system.
  • Provide authorization information to clinical staff and hospitals as needed.
  • Prepare patient profiles for upcoming appointments, reviewing accounts for billing, payment, and authorization status, global period, and payment due at appointment.
  • Act as a leader to deliver these essential duties and responsibilities as a valued service to all patients.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with medical insurance.
  • Basic accounting and medical terminology, including ICD9, ICD10, and CPT coding.
  • Ability to analyze insurance coverage and benefits to inform patients of their coverage.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to understand and comply with EmergeOrtho policies and procedures.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records to determine what is appropriate to obtain authorization.
