Position Overview

Our laboratory is pleased to present an internship opportunity for individuals interested in a Laboratory Assistant position.

We seek candidates who can dedicate 20 hours weekly throughout the fall semester. This is a compensated internship.

The Laboratory Assistant will engage in a diverse range of support activities for Lab Technicians and Lab Analysts, ensuring optimal quality by adhering to SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This role involves both independent work and teamwork to guarantee the timely completion of all assigned responsibilities. The Laboratory Assistant is expected to consistently follow safe laboratory protocols and maintain a secure working environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the distribution of supplies from the supply room.
  • Ensure sufficient stock of accessories, consumables, and chemicals in each laboratory to promote efficient production operations.
  • Handle the disposal of samples post the designated retention period.
  • Document activities in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and dispose of expired or depleted chemicals.
  • Prepare non-treated in-house media.
  • Clean and decontaminate laboratory glassware, containers, and accessories in accordance with SOPs.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required.
  • Comply with internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Carry out additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma (Required)
  • High school diploma with 1-2 years of general work experience (Preferred)
  • Proficient English language skills (Required)
  • Basic reasoning and mathematical skills (Required)
  • Basic computer skills (Required)
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights of up to 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
