We are seeking a highly skilled Process Development Associate Scientist to join our team in the Gene Therapy Program at the University of Pennsylvania. As a key member of our Vector Core, you will be responsible for leading process development projects for upstream and/or downstream manufacturing of viral vectors.
About the Role:As a Process Development Associate Scientist, you will be a subject matter expert in upstream or downstream manufacturing. You will independently lead lab studies to develop upstream or downstream manufacturing processes, identifying and defining critical process parameters and critical attribute parameters. You will work to design and scale-out vector processes, support process characterization, and draft documentation for regulatory purposes. Additionally, you will lead process optimization studies as needed, develop and update process protocols/SOPs, and direct the technology transfer of new or updated processes to the manufacturing group.
Responsibilities:- Lead process development projects for upstream and/or downstream manufacturing of viral vectors
- Independently lead lab studies to develop upstream or downstream manufacturing processes
- Identify and define critical process parameters and critical attribute parameters
- Design and scale-out vector processes
- Support process characterization and draft documentation for regulatory purposes
- Lead process optimization studies as needed
- Develop and update process protocols/SOPs
- Direct the technology transfer of new or updated processes to the manufacturing group
- MS Degree in Biochemical/Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related disciplines + 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
- Must have experience in mammalian cell culture, tangential flow filtration, and/or column chromatography
- Experience in biologics manufacturing preferred
- Knowledge of process development concepts for biological manufacturing; basic principles of various engineering disciplines required
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
- Must be an independent thinker, meticulous, detail-oriented, and analytical
- Must be highly motivated, have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
