Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Sports Nutrition Specialist for Football. The successful candidate will provide expert nutrition counseling and education to enhance the performance of student athletes, on-site and during travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counsel individuals and groups on daily nutrition for performance and health
  • Translate the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations
  • Track and document outcomes of nutrition services
  • Provide sports nutrition education for health, wellness, and performance
  • Maintain professional competency and skills required for professional practice

Essential Functions

  • Assess and analyze dietary practice, body composition, and energy expenditure of athletes
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training, competition, recovery, hydration, travel, and supplementation
  • Develop and implement personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy, as needed, to help manage or treat medical conditions
  • Coordinate nutritional care as a member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine team

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supervise, educate, and mentor dietetic interns, student workers, employees, and others as appropriate
  • Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance
  • Plan menus for training table and team travel
  • Recommend appropriate pre-, during, and post-exercise fluids and snacks for training and competition
  • Serve as a nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, food service professionals, and parents

Requirements

  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • May need to lift equipment, mail, or supplies up to 50 pounds
